You will find our box office and ticketing policies below. If you have any questions, please reach out to our box office staff at artsboxoffice@virginia.edu.

How To Purchase Tickets

Tickets can be purchased online at artsboxoffice.virginia.edu 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Online sales end one hour before the event begins.

Tickets can also be purchased in person or by phone during regular business hours. Tickets will also be available to purchase at the door starting one hour before curtain, subject to availability.

All major credit cards are accepted as well as personal checks. Cash is accepted at the Arts Box Office and Old Cabell Hall but is not accepted at our remote box offices servicing off-Grounds venues.

Ticket Delivery & Will Call

Tickets purchased by phone or online can be delivered electronically, by mail, or held at Will Call. Please select your preferred delivery method at the time of purchase.

Electronic tickets will be delivered by email and can be printed at home or shown on their phone or mobile device at the door.

Mail delivery will incur a $2.00 processing fee. Please allow five to seven business days for mail delivery. Tickets purchased within ten days of an event will automatically be held at Will Call.

Will Call tickets can be picked up at the Arts Box Office during regular business hours or at the door starting one hour prior to the event. Please be prepared to show an order confirmation or photo ID when picking up Will Call tickets.

Service Fees

A nonrefundable service charge will be charged automatically to all phone, mail, and online orders, excluding free tickets. Services fees for the 2021-2022 season will be $1.50 per ticket and $5.00 per subscription ordered.

Misplaced Tickets

If you have misplaced a print-at-home ticket, you can find a copy of your upcoming event tickets by signing into your Arts Box Office account here and then visiting your account’s Upcoming Events page here. You can also request your print-at-home ticket to be emailed to you again by calling or visiting the Arts Box Office during business hours or emailing us at artsboxoffice@virginia.edu.

If you have misplaced a printed ticket, you ticket may be reprinted at the box office with a valid order confirmation and photo ID for a $2.00 reprint fee. Reprint fees are waived for season subscribers. Please treat printed tickets like cash and keep in a safe location.

All sales are final. No refunds will be issued unless the event is canceled.

If you are unable to attend an event, you may be eligible to return your tickets as a tax-deductible charitable donation for the face value of the tickets (excluding any service fees). To be eligible, tickets must be returned to the Arts Box Office before the event begins.

If there is more than one performance of the event you have purchased, you may be permitted to exchange your tickets for another performance of the same event, subject to availability and management discretion. Exchanges must be made in person by returning the original tickets at least 24 hours prior to the event. Exchanges are not permitted for any event that has already started or between two different events. Complimentary tickets cannot be exchanged.

For events with reserved seating, patrons may be permitted to change their seats prior to the start of the event, subject to availability. Please note that patrons are responsible for any difference in price when exchanging seats.

Select series offer season ticket subscribers the benefit of added flexibility to exchange tickets. Please visit ourSubscriptions page for more information.

Group Sales

Group discounts may be available for select events. If you are interested in purchasing tickets for your group, contact the Arts Box Office for more information.

Season Subscriptions

Season ticket subscriptions are available for select performance series including the Heritage Theatre Festival, Charlottesville Symphony, and Tuesday Evening Concert Series. Subscribers are among our most valued patrons and receive priority seating for season performances as well as discounted pricing and other exclusive benefits.

Subscriptions for the Heritage Theatre Festival can be purchased online through the Arts Box Office. Please contact the Charlottesville Symphony and Tuesday Evening Concert Series to purchase a subscription to their series.

Please visit our Subscriptions page for more information.

Seating and Accessibility

Please let our Box Office staff know prior to purchasing tickets when seating accommodations are required (wheelchair seating, aisle seat, etc.). Accessible seating prices and availability vary by event and venue. Please visit our Accessibility page for more information.

Late Seating

Please arrive at least forty-five minutes in advance of an event if you need to purchase tickets or pick up tickets from will call, and at least thirty minutes prior if you already have tickets. Please be advised that some events may coincide with University of Virginia athletic events, in which case it may be necessary to allow additional time for parking and travel. Doors open and seating begins approximately thirty minutes before the scheduled start time. Late seating information for each venue is listed below:

  • Culbreth, Helms, and Ruth Caplin Theatres: Patrons may be admitted after curtain at discretion of the venue manager but are not guaranteed their ticketed seat until intermission.
  • Old Cabell Hall: Doors are shut at the start of the event and reopen for late admission between pieces. For some events, there will be no late seating until intermission.
  • Virginia Film Festival: General admission seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and late entry or late seating may be allowed at discretion of the venue manager.
Infants and Small Children

All persons must have a ticket for entry, including children and infants in arms. As a courtesy to artists and other patrons, please use discretion regarding a child’s ability to sit quietly and enjoy an event. Please note that most events are not appropriate for pre-school-age children and anyone creating a disturbance during an event may be asked to leave.

For events at Old Cabell Hall, no children under the age of five will be allowed entry.

Inclement Weather & Cancellations

Please contact the Arts Box Office to check the status of any event that might be affected by severe weather. In most cases, an event will proceed as scheduled unless the University is closed. To check the operational status of the University of Virginia, please visit UVA Emergency Information or call the UVA Hotline.

In the event that a performance is canceled, the Arts Box Office will contact patrons to offer a refund. Notice of cancellation will be posted on the events page.
