The Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia is the only museum of Indigenous Australian art in the United States. While 20-minute introductory tours led by a volunteer are available for free on a daily basis, the offerings below provide the opportunity to delve deeper and see more of the collection with a knowledgeable Kluge-Ruhe staff member.

Provides an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience that includes the current exhibitions and an exploration of the museum’s on-site art storage spaces. Exploring art storage provides the opportunity to see much more artwork than what’s on public display and learn about the museum’s efforts around preservation, conservation and repatriation. This tour experience is 90 minutes.

This exclusive experience for up to 12 people includes a tour of the current exhibitions and the museum’s on-site art storage space by Curator Henry F. Skerritt. It also includes a reception featuring a brief wine tasting for 12 by a local winery and a cheese board for 12 by a local caterer. In addition to deeper information and expansive context for the current exhibitions, touring art storage provides the opportunity to see much more artwork than what is on public display and learn about the museum’s efforts around curation, preservation, conservation and repatriation. The reception offers a tasting of central Virginia’s best wine, pre-dinner appetizers and plenty of time for questions for the Curator and socialization among your group.
